a calling outreach program for their participants to maintain regular contact. If you are feeling isolated reach out by phone to your Area Agency on Aging. Traditional community dining sites have closed to enjoying meals with friends but some are still providing a prepared meal in a bag to take with you to feed those in need. Turn to page 6 for a complete list of dining sites in our service area. Call
to find out how they will be continuing with service during this time. They may even recommend that you be added to a routine home-delivered meal program.
This issue will touch upon making safe choices and other areas of con- cern as it relates to COVID-19.
During this “Stay at Home” order, our printer has been given permission to continue operations to ensure access to information to those most vulnerable. They have taken precautions to keep employees and products safe, from wiping down or spraying workstations, equipment controls, and all areas that staff come into contact with after every shift. They have also eliminated shift overlaps to ensure that the men and women that print and package Senior Times stay safe.

During these challenging times Governor Whitmore has identified the media as an essential service. She signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order (EO 2020-21) on March 23, 2020, directing all Michigan businesses and operations to temporarily suspend in-per- son operations that are not necessary to sustain or protect life. The order also directs Michiganders to stay in their homes unless they’re a part of the critical infrastructure workforce, engaged in an outdoor activity, or performing tasks nec- essary to the health and safety of them- selves or their family, like going to the hospital or grocery store. This is in effect until April 13 at least.

we will also provide updates as we receive them, most immediately on our Facebook page. Sadly COVID-19 seems to be exceptionally dangerous to seniors, especially when there are co-occurring medical conditions. As a result, addition- al precautions have been taken to protect area seniors as well as their care provid- ers. Senior facilities have had to make significant changes from limiting visitors to implementing social distancing. Senior centers and aging services have discov- ered that cancelling activities is one way to encourage seniors to stay home while allowing for social distancing at the same time. Beware
of Scams
From the Office of Michigan Attorney General Nessel
Scammers are using the news that the federal government will send one-time payments to millions of people across the country as part of the federal eco- nomic relief response to COVID-19 to steal personal information.
If you receive a text, email, or phone call from someone claiming to be from the government with a check for you — DO NOT FALL FOR IT.
Pay attention to these scam signs:
• Request for bank account information. • Request for payment.
• Request for personal or other financial
information.
• Offers to help you apply for the stimu-
lus payment.
Stay alert: Do not, under any circum-
stances, give away your personal infor- mation via text, e-mail, or phone. Never open attachments or links sent from any- one claiming to be from the government. Do not reply and delete the message right away.
