AVOID THE DITCH
As we continue in full motion down our individual paths in life, it is impor- tant to know that there are specific ways to keep from falling into the ditch. The ditch is a metaphor for a wrong decision made, which resulted in less than favorable outcomes. Examples of this could be a bad investment, a dis- ease that was created by bad lifestyle choices, or even the loss of mobility in one or more of your joints in your body that may require surgery or replace- ment. There are many more bad deci- sions that you could make but what I am trying to instill in you is that a lot of options that could be a good alternative.
When it comes to your health, you can’t want to get or be well, you must pursue your health in order for it not get in the way or even shorten your quality of life.
For every right choice that you make there is a wrong one as well. It is very easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life and lose site of the priority choices... the lifestyle choices. My dad tells me every time I see him that I need to stay in shape, strong, and flex- ible and also stay consistent because if you don’t, you’ll lose your health and if you don’t have that, you have noth- ing. And it is true. For instance, what happens when you don’t stretch and stay flexible? That’s right, you will get more stiff and less flexible. The saying, “If you don’t use it, you lose it,” is very true. So, in order to stay as mobile and flexible as you can, one needs to be
on a program of sorts to not only keep
you accountable but also so we get some results... a better, more vital you. There is not one category of your life that won’t improve based on this very teaching.
Most of us will stay on course for a bit and then take the ditch.
Understand why and who you are doing this for. Your health is for you to live and be a blessing to not just your- self but your family, friends, and to all you come in contact with. If you stay
in the ditch it could mean sickness, dis- ease, and the shortening of a life. It is not the preferred way. Stay accountable, consistent, persistent, and very manage- able when it comes to lifestyle choices and I will guarantee that at the end
of your life it will be a life of quality, vitality, longevity, vitality, and fulfill- ment; all of the attributes that you can have and deserve.

Aging Mastery Program
By: Kitty Knoll, Manager, Heritage Commons
CareWell Services Southwest is pleased to announce that we are the first in Albion to offer an innovative ten-week health and wellness pro- gram to residents 60 and over. The Aging Mastery Program (AMP) was developed by the National Council on Aging® (NCOA) and has been suc- cessful at helping older adults build their own playbook for aging well.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for older adults to participate in a proven, cutting edge program,” noted Karla Fales, CEO of CareWell Services Southwest. CareWell Services has had success with offering this program in Battle Creek and Marshall. We are cur- rently recruiting adults age 60 and over to participate in this ten week course.
AMP is a fun, innovative and per- son-centered, education program that empowers participants to embrace their gift of longevity by spending more time each day doing things that are beneficial to themselves and oth- ers.
It is a great opportunity for older adults to engage with others in a positive, intentional program that has received evidence-based status

this July. The status means that the program has delivered measureable results for those that continue to par- ticipate in the 10-week course. The program encourages small changes that can make a big impact in develop- ing positive outcomes in health, social engagement and personal finances. There is a $30 cost for the materials for the class.
