A flag raising ceremony will be conducted next to the Fair Office (720 Fair Street, Marshall, 49068) at noon by the American Legion.
County Fair time is almost upon
us! If you’re ever lucky enough to be on Jeopardy and one of the categories is “U.S. County Fairs,” one of the questions might be, “Operating since 1848, this county fair is the oldest in the state of Michigan.” If your thumb is the quickest on the buzzer, you just might want to respond with, “What is the Calhoun County Fair in Marshall, Michigan?” The first Calhoun County Fair was actually held on November 5, 1839, with the goal of educating local farmers about new technology that was available.
If you have worn or frayed flags that need to be retired, you can bring them with you and drop them off at the Calhoun County Veterans Affairs table and we will ensure that they’re retired with a proper ceremony.
On Monday, August 12, the fair
will be holding a day to honor and celebrate Veterans. All Veterans and active duty personnel will be allowed into the fair at no cost. Organizations that are dedicated to assisting Veterans will be located in the Belcher Building. Regardless if you’re
seeking benefits, or if
you’re just looking for
a service organization
to join, you should
be able to find what
you’re looking for!
The CareWell Kiosk,
which is a mobile
health and education
service (also a great
place to cool down),
will be present.
Veterans will be able
to get a free meal at
the Fredonia Grange

The Calhoun County Fair is a great time for seniors of all ages to come out and relive the days of yesteryear: eat yummy corndogs, French fries, and ele- phant ears; check out the horses, cattle, rabbits, chicken/ducks, llamas, and pigs in the animal barns; and watch youth involved in 4-H proudly display all that they have learned managing animals and creating crafts. Calhoun County Senior Services shares office space with Michigan State University Extension, which sponsors and organizes 4-H
for the County, and they have been busy preparing for the fair all summer. Students and parents prepare all year
to show their skills and produce at the County Fair.
