What are you thankful for? It really is a good question to ask in light of the many things that apparently are going wrong in our world in July 2022:
For example: there is a war between Russia and Ukraine still unraveling; the breakdown of the family contin- ues; and poverty in general continues even after the Federal Government
has spent $22 billion since 1965 when declaring a, “War on poverty.” Sadly, the poverty level in this country is the same! Hatred and crime are on the rise. America appears to no longer have a border with Mexico. We just learned of an assassination targeting a Supreme Court Justice in Washington, DC. All you can say is that the prob- lems of this world are almost unspeak- able, beyond description, and truly overwhelming!

But, this is nothing new. There’s always a tyrant acting out his evil; there always is government plunder and ineptitude; and there’s always imperfect people and even an imper- fect Church.
And there are wonderful persons who are serving our Country, our State, and our cities that daily serve
in the military, law enforcement, and emergency services who risk their very lives for the sake of others in crisis.
Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center, is coming to Battle Creek July 14-17. The community can view the Wall at Harper Creek High School soccer field complex. It will be open 24 hours a day and is free to the public.
Galesburg, Augusta, Fort Custer, Urbandale, and downtown Battle Creek to arrive at Harper Creek High School at 2:45pm. Opening Ceremonies will be at 10am Thursday July 14 and closing
at 12pm on Sunday July 17. Medal of Honor Recipient Vietnam Veteran Jim McCloughan and Senator Joe Swartz, also a Vietnam Veteran, will be keynote speakers. Retired Col Frank. J Walker will serve as Master of Ceremonies. There will be flyovers by the Hooligans Flight team, music by the Cereal City Concert Band, Color and Honor Guards, Laying of Wreaths, and military honors. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday at precisely 9pm Taps will be played.
The Wall That Heals honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed forces in the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women (eight) who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

There are wonderful things happening in the world of art and music that can and does lift your spirit and underscore the hope that you feel inside. All of these truly are “heaven on earth”
So when you celebrate this month by going to a parade, a fireworks dis- play, a picnic, or just a quiet thank you in contemplation, remember it’s all made possible by the One who came first to serve, and ones you can’t see with your eyes because they’re already in heaven, or serving on some foreign shore, or waiting to serve when the emergency strikes. You might not be able to see them with your eyes, but your heart knows the truth. Their lives made and make a difference. And yours does too when you commit to serving.
