FAITH MATTERS IN A NEW YEAR...
My job is to pray! In fact, nothing of substance has happened in my life apart from prayer. I prayed when I was a child in Sunday School; as a teen at church camp; as a soldier in a war; as I fell in love with the woman I married; as a youth worker; before going into ministry; as a pastor; as a police chap- lain; as a counselor; and thousands of times with and on behalf of countless persons and situations. I prayed last night when I awoke thinking of families without their children this Christmas because of illness or a senseless shoot- ing in Oxford, MI... then I thought of all the children who have died in the past day from illness and starvation across the world... I felt overwhelmed again... and then I prayed.
If you do nothing else with your day, take time to pray. And the moment you feel worried... that is your signal to stop whatever you’re doing... and pray.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7 (New Living Translation)
I caught myself worrying in October. Both my wife and myself had contract- ed the Covid coronavirus, and we were not feeling the greatest, but worst of all, we were isolated from everyone. This
is really different and difficult because my wife and I are rarely isolated from anyone! I had received the infusion of antibodies to help healing, and we were taking the drug store meds to handle cough, chills, and GI symptoms. Our family and friends helped out when we needed something from the store, and all of our phone, computers, and TV’s worked just fine. We weren’t really that bad off and we were together in our illness, but something in me was still worried. Then I prayed. During
the prayer I remembered this scripture that I had put to memory years ago,
and it helped me re-frame my current situation.
Turn off your TV, your social media, and your computer. Lift it up to God. Praise Him. Thank Him. Confess your sins. Pray for yourself and pray for oth- ers. Whether you feel like it helped or not is immaterial. What God is looking at is the attitude of your heart.

My job is not to worry! Your job
is not to worry! Worrying is a totally wasted effort. Absolutely nothing is gained by worrying, only lost time and energy. But prayer... now that will actu- ally accomplish something.
No sincere prayer you pray is ever ignored by God. He hears you. He’s with you. He’s on your side. So don’t be anxious about anything, but pray about everything.
